Children of Leprosy

In the mountains of southwest China lie a remote group of settlements known in Chinese as "kangfu cun" - literally, "recovery villages." More commonly though, they're known simply as leprosy villages.

Although the fight against leprosy is long over, and the villagers are no longer contagious, misperceptions about the disease remain widespread in the outside world, resulting in stigma and isolation.

Discriminated against for decades, today these villages are working to change the way the world sees them.
